What is Assault?

Assault is the crime of putting someone in an immediate fear of a battery. However, the assault occurs before the touching required for a battery or happens in the absence of touching. For example, Jane throws a stick at John intending to strike him with it, but the stick misses John. Jane has assaulted John.

Maximum Penalties: 93 days in jail and/or $500.00 in fines
