What is Embezzlement?

Embezzlement (property/money valued less than $200) – Embezzlement is the crime of theft or misuse of money that has been placed in your care, but belongs to your employer. Common examples of conduct that might result in this charge would be: taking money from a cash register at your work place or spending allocated work funds on unapproved personal items.

Maximum Penalties: 93 days in jail and/or $500.00 in fines or three times the value of the money embezzled (whichever is greater)
